Labor of Love: Miyata 1000 650b Conversion

$2,000.00

Let’s get the important stuff out of the way first:

Frame size 57cm center of the Bottom Bracket shell to the top of the top tube just in front of the seat lug.

The top tube measures 55cm center to center.

This is a very low miles 1981 Miyata 1000 that acquired as complete bike that was stored in cool dry place for a very long time.

I did a 650b conversion on this bike and documented it every step of the way in a YouTube video series and on posts on Instagram.

I removed the original cantilever brake bosses, and fillet brazed on new ones front and rear, lower and wider for 650b wheels and modern cantilever brakes. I also respaced and aligned the frame from its origin 120mm rear spacing to fit modern 130mm road hubs. So, it can run modern 7-11 speed road drive trains. I also removed the triple top tube cable stops and replaced them with a pair of stops for a bare cable run. Then added a several threaded bosses: one in the rear brake cable stop to allow it to have a barrel adjuster; one in each rear bridge for easier fender attachments; and a matching set on the down tube for a water bottle cage. I added a pair of shift bosses to the down tube for either down tube shifters or bolt on cable stops (included). I drilled the lower head lug and bottom bracket shell for gromets and dynamo taillight wiring (included). And my favorite modification, I added a frame pump peg on the non-drive side chain stay and had my favorite pump powder coated to match. and last but not least I added a set of mid fork rack mounts to allow mounting most front lowrider racks.

Then took it in to have it powder coated and then did the post powder coat prep including reaming and facing the fork and head tube to the modern ISO or English standard size and installed a new Tange chrome headset (included).

Then I installed a beautiful set of reproduction decals!

Note: The display wheels and anything else not explicitly stated are not included.
